Orla, Texas
I don't know what it is about old ghost towns that draw me. These were taken late Sunday, Labor Day weekend as we drove back home from a quick getaway in New Mexico. The wind was blowing, the sun setting in a rain-threatening sky, and the old tin metal diesel sign was creaking and sighing with each breeze. It felt like a scene from a Twilight Zone episode.
Orla was once a fairly booming little town. Sulphur processing was a big industry in the mid 1960's in the area, and Orla became a rural oil supply center for a short time.

This is the visual equivalent of a train whistle in the wee hours of a foggy morning.
