Bad?Good? Covers

My highly non-conforming friend, Whisky Prajer, is snake-oiling (Come one, come all!) the Flaming Lips cover of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon.

Blasphemous! Unheard of! Disfiguration!

Well, sometimes...sometimes such redos are surprisingly good. Most often the results send me running for a swig of that disgusting pink cement-in-a-bottle.

I haven't partaken of WP's new found musical treasure, but I did do some sleuthing myself to discover more weirdness (and no, nary a cat carcass to be found...yet).

First, the Good Covers category:

Ray Lamontagne's version of "Crazy" (Gnarls Barkley)

The video embed was disabled, but I LOVE Bryan Adams' cover of Dionne Warwick's "Walk On By":

Yee Haw! The Nashville Superpickers do Eagles Better! "Hotel California" with a little pickin' and a grinnin'(the intro is misleading, wait for the good stuff to start):

And though I be a Beatles purist, I rather dig gODHEAD doing "Eleanor Rigby""

Ah, yes, how about a south of the Mason/Dixon twist on some Aerosmith's "Walk This Way" courtesy of the Hayseed Dixie:

Now for the PEPTO covers:

Maybe because I just don't like him, Ozzy Osbourne's rendition of "Sunshine of Your Love" - gets a yech from me:

Double YECH! Sid Vicious' butchering of Sinatra's "My Way":

How about a nice giggle? Or blech, take your best shot, Shat! Elton John's "Rocket Man" like you've never heard before:

Excuse me, while I kiss this guy...off to make chili! It's snowing here in Cowtown! Hell hath froze over?

when I saw 'Crazy', I thought Patsy Cline (just to let ya know where my head is at) but I liked it and thought it rather good.

I like "Hotel California" pretty well but I'm still an Eagles fan.

'Eleanor' was so-so.

Hayseed Dixie was fun!!!

And yeah, Ozzie and Sid will nevah, evah get a thumbs up from this ole gal.

Shatner has a good sense of humor about himself and I think this is a hoot.

Thanks for sharing these!!!

Pink Floyd has some good stuff but don't know about that other group.
Like your NashVille Pickers. Like Eleanor Rigby but this version too dark for me. Have heard versions of Crazy I like but not too warm on this one. As for the rest -- nothing good to say,

'Spect you're diggin' out from all your snow. Thank heavens for the chili!

Joared, the Crazy is not the Patsy Cline song, it is Ray Lamontagne doing a cover of a popular song of the band Gnarls Barkley.

It is a little confusing, given the song title.

I can't fault Hayseed-Dixie for any of their covers, but will have to give the prize to Shatner. Long gone, alas(?), are the days of the cigarette as theatrical prop/vocal enhancer.
