It Was a Dark and Stormy Night

*Update: Seems another bloggy friend was thinking along the same lines when he posted a few of his own GEBL Dark and Stormy favorites of the 2008 contest.

With a horrid sense of recognition, her eyes rounded wide and her mouth a perfect "O", the amateur humorist from the dusty hot northeast Texas cattle town ducked her shameful face beneath the wide shady brim of her sweat-stained Stetson and held the "delete" key hard and fast with her righthand pinkie finger; her blog filled with side-slappin' tales and heart-felt stories would be forbidden for she could not bear to be compared to Earl Bulwer-Lytton.

(Paragraph works best if "Lytton" is pronounced like "kitten")

Tip o'tha inspirational Stetson to Edward, my Californian erudite friend.

My personal favorite 2008 B-L Contest "winner" is this:

"Let's see what this baby can do, Virgil," said Wyatt, as he floored the Charger, brushing a Dart out of the way, sideswiping an oncoming Lancer, rear-ending a Diplomat, and demolishing a row of Rams before catapulting head-on into the sheriff's Viper -- realizing that we'd indeed missed the turn-off to Abilene and ended up instead, in Dodge City.

Your own personal dark-and-stormy, by the way, captures the spirit of the whole thing beautifully. Nicely, which is to say wretchedly, done!

Why, Pete, I'm tickled pink!
And your nice encouragement is worth far more than some ol' dumb contest trophy!

Thankee, kindly, sir!
