Fly Dad
UPDATE: Couple of very nice commentors say this plane is a P51 Mustang. Here is a photo of Chuck Yeager's "Glamourous Glen III". I agree, this plane appears to be the same model/make.
Donald has a good post over at the 2blowhards' joint. Reminded me of this photo of my dad taken around 1949 in Japan, I believe, where he was stationed while serving in the Army Air Force. I was hoping someone might have more information regarding the plane he is standing on. (Clicking on the photo will enlarge for better viewing.)
In fact, I need to do my own investigation regarding his military service as I know very little about it. Though he was too young to fight in WWII, he was part of the clean up in Japan. He talked a little about it now and then, but I am embarrassed to say I don't even know his unit name, etc. Now, sadly, it is too late to ask him personally - he died of lung cancer in 2000.
Missed opportunities.

Looks like a P-51...
but I may be wrong...
I can't I.D. the plane -- recall from WWII the names P-48, Flying Tiger and B-29 (know it's not the latter.)
Yeah, too many of these Vets are passing on without telling their stories. So many stories we wish we'd paid more attention to, written down, recorded as oral history.
Pattie, If you write the VA you can get copies his military files. I found out a lot of info about my dad when I did this.
I'm with Jerry. Looks like a P-51 Mustang.
Awesome picture.
Well now, a P-51 Mustang, huh?
Sounds pretty cool!
Thanks Foo and all.
