Early Christmas Present

When Kman painted the murals in our front formal dining room, we were unsure what window treatment would look just right for our "Big Bend" room. We added a faux leather covered valance first, and that was okay. This west-facing window gets a lot of afternoon sun, so we wanted something that would block some of that light and heat.

We considered plantation shutters, but eh....no.

A few years ago when Kman and I were at his grandparent's old home place in Comanche, we found some old windows stacked up in the shed and we took four of them home. Weren't sure how we would use them, but they were the sturdy, heavy kind made when craftsmanship mattered.

Kman had a great idea of how to turn those windows on their narrower sides and construct a type of shutter, and in addition, add mosaic stained glass. He looked at some photos we took of sunsets in the Bend, and patterned the mosaic after that.

We haven't had much sunlight this week, but as soon as we do, I will get a photo of the window in full sun as a backlight.

Meanwhile, here are a few I took tonight, but they really don't do justice to this amazing piece of artwork. Just turned out so beautiful

Now to get rid of the stupid duck pillows on my refinished antique oak church pew. Yech, those things are uh-gly. I should have taken the Mexican blanket off of the pew as well so you could see the pretty wood. Professional photographer I'm not.
