Cowboy Up!

**This is a reblog. Peter's musical offerings today at Time Goes By reminded me of it.  Thanks, Peter!

During a short email exchange, Joared and I squared off on which Heartthrob of the Hollywood Hills was the best, Roy Rogers or Gene Autry, that "hard-riding, sweet-singing, cowboy picture star?"

And which of the duo practiced the Cowboy Code the best?

He must not take unfair advantage of an enemy.
He must never go back on his word.
He must always tell the truth.
He must always be gentle with children, elderly people, and animals.
He must not possess racially or religious intolerant ideas.
He must help people in distress.
He must be a good worker.
He must respect women, parents, and his nation's laws.
He must be a patriot.

My grandfather would always bring a smile to my face when he sang and played "That Silver-Haired Daddy of Mine" on his guitar. I thought my grandfather, my real-life hero, was just as handsome as Gene.

So, which is it my kind and wise readers? Who's the best, Gene or Roy?

I think it's no surprise whom I choose!

I gotta go with Roy 'cause he's a fellow Ohioan.

I vote Roy. He was my hero when I was 3 and 4 years old. A red Roy Rogers cowboy hat was my most prized possession. That hat gave me leverage in the running battle with Bill, my neighbor, playmate and senior by a year or so. He argued that since I was a GIRL, I had to be Dale Evans. No way! I was going to be Roy when we played cowboys. I was tiny, scrawny and stubborn. i don't remember ever being Dale. After all, I had the HAT!

Kay - that's not a good Cowboy reason!

LC - you wanted to be Roy. LOL. I was never Dale Evans, either, come to think of it...LOL
