In The Year 2525...

Like most babyboomers my age, I loved Saturday morning cartoons with the Jetsons. And like Bill over at Nothing But Love, I just knew that flying cars would surely be a reality in the year 2000. (Bill has the most original artwork over at his site today, take a look. Quite good.)

By the year 2000, I expected not only flying cars, but robot maids, and telephones with picture screens. Well, two out of three ain't too bad (if you count the worthless little robot vacuum thingys).

If you go by the lyrics in the 1969 song written by Zager and Evans, performed by the band, 10 years After, the Age of the Machine doesn't take place until 5555:

In the year 5555
Your arms are hanging limp at your sides
Your legs got nothing to do
Some machine, doing that for you

But, don't take their word for it, they certainly missed this one:

In the year 6565
Ain't gonna need no husband, won't need no wife
You'll pick your son, pick your daughter too
From the bottom of a long glass tube.

Anyone else out there color Judy Jetson's hair pink in their coloring book? Take that, Cyndi Lauper.
