Would smell as sweet but I wouldn't be able to distinguish a rose from a roast, scent wise.
For the past 3 or 4 years, my sense of smell has totally gone defunct. Not sure if it came about due to high doses of steroids I was on for a period of time with an onset of adult asthma or what. I still have the asthma, but it is much more manageable with new drugs on the market which are far less toxic and damaging than steroids. This article Science Blog - Metal ions may play a big role in how we sense smells suggests that zinc deficiency may play a role.
If I must be subject to a loss of a sense, I suppose smell is one that would be easiest to live with. Would I replace with a loss of sight, or touch, or hearing? No way. It is a funny thing, I can remember what something should smell like, thus when I am eating chocolate chip cookies, I have memory of that wonderful smell. Picking out colognes for myself has been relegated to a daughter. What I miss the most is the smell of loved ones. I have been fortunate to have found a new beginning with a most wonderful man, but I have no "smell" memory to draw on nor a chance to imprint his unique phernomes upon my brain.
So, I shall hit the local health bar and try an uber dose of zinc. Updates will follow on this experiment!
Anyone else with this problems? Maybe there is a Nonsmellers Anonymous?
