I was Lillie Langtry in another life, and might have a crush on Calamity Jane.

Goodnight, Mr. Newman

Death is a commingling of eternity with time; in the death of a good man, eternity is seen looking through time.

Chris Clarke

A great blogger, great writer, Chris Clarke has a new story published at qarrtsiluni: Sea Change.

Chris is on my sidebar; his blog, Creek Running North, is excellent if you haven't already discovered it.

Congrats Chris! And I'm adding a qarrtsiluni link to the sidebar as well.

On White Privilege

This Is Your Nation On White Privilege, written by Tim Wise over at the Red Room blog, will make you stop and think regardless of your party or philosphical bend.

Many thanks to Kent for sending the link my way.

I don't think Tim Wise has gotten everything right, but his words surely give you something else to think about other than your investments going down the toilet like a rogue Tidy Bowl under-the-rim tablet that's lost it's plastic clip.

And I got a kick out of this from one of Tim's commentors:

Thank you, Tim, for your clarity and pointed comments. As an older white broad(occasional chick), I am apalled at the attention given to this Geezer/Gidget ticket. John McCain must think that we women are incredibly stupid and will vote for this cosmicly flawed duo just because there is a woman there. I haven't lived for 60 years just to be duped by this obvious pander to the women of America. I survived a husband in Vietnam X2, the 60's, the Beatles' breakup, Reagan, inflation in the 70's, the death of Harry Chapin, Disco, transcendental meditation, the boring 80's, kids' graduating from high school, then college, even becoming a granny. So, while Palin is damn scary, I think I can survive her pretentious little threat to become VP.

We've come too far to take such a giant step backward. This country is worthy of so much better.

Orla, Texas

I don't know what it is about old ghost towns that draw me. These were taken late Sunday, Labor Day weekend as we drove back home from a quick getaway in New Mexico. The wind was blowing, the sun setting in a rain-threatening sky, and the old tin metal diesel sign was creaking and sighing with each breeze. It felt like a scene from a Twilight Zone episode.

Orla was once a fairly booming little town. Sulphur processing was a big industry in the mid 1960's in the area, and Orla became a rural oil supply center for a short time.

My Man, Browne

My beloved favorite musician (okay, so yeah, I say that about James Taylor, Townes Van Zandt, Paul Simon and Jimmy Buffet but who's keeping score?), Jackson Browne, has a new cd: Time the Conqueror.

I think even with just the brief listen-through of the offered clips, I am already enamoured.

He's gonna be at Nokia in Grand Prairie in October, but dang...on a Wednesday night?

Us old farts gotta work the next morning... makes me weary just thinking about arriving home around midnight and work the next day.

But, still...a chance to hear and see The Man Browne?

Shall contemplate.

Is It Sand or Snow?

Sand, of course.

I took this at White Sands National Park in New Mexico over the Labor Day weekend. I am getting lots of really good shots with the new camera...

Yucca in Bloom!

One of our soft yuccas in the backyard has responded to some nice rain and cooler temps with a beautiful stalk of blooms.

The brugmansia has pods on it finally, and once they blossom, I'll post those pretties as well. The hyacinth vine out front is blooming, too. Seems all the plants are coming out of their hot summer shutdown modes.

Do You Feel... Framptonish?

Okay, my secret is out... I once was Peter Frampton's twin sister....

I wouldn't want to be that young anymore, but I do envy the days when I could eat like Michael Phelps and still maintain a Twiggy-like figure.

And here was a popular tune around the year this photo was taken (Good gravy, were we that goofy back then? I don't recall my crowd being quite so...nerdy. But, then again, that photo...):

Now, if there was ever any doubt about my age, these three references clear that right up:

Peter Frampton
Twiggy
Deep Purple
