If you are like me, mostly ignorant of the genre of reggae, then riddim-I yo'self over to Ed Leimbacher's blog, I Witness, for an island full of information and inspirations.
Summertime is perfect for some Jamaica reggae music, and Ed has some terrific suggestions. Who knew such fun, seemingly simple music had a much more deeper and darker geneaology?
Ed's online music store is here.

Have you been missing out! Where to start...The soundtrack to The Harder They Come and Bob Marley's Legend are musts. Start there and get back to me!
By the way did you see where Jenna Bush referred to her mom as a 'secret rastafarian' (The New York Times Book Review 5/23/10). I wonder what she meant?
Maybe she is a closet vegetarian?
LOL
Now I can't get the thought of Laura Bush in dreadlocks out my head.
Ugh, mon!
I agree with K that "The Harder They Come" is a must. Not a bad film either. A favorite of mine is Toots Hibbert's take on John Denver's "Take Me Home, Country Roads".
"Toots in Memphis" is a fine album too.
Bob Marley's "Natty Dread" album is well worth a listen.

Five (or six) reggae albums everyone should own:
1) The Harder They Come Soundtrack -- a great introduction to reggae.
2) Burning Spear's "Marcus Garvey" -- a roots reggae masterpiece, maybe too rootsy for an intiate, but it is a classic.
3) The Mighty Diamonds "Right Time" -- ethereal harmonies, righteous lyrics, timeless.
4) Gregory Isaacs "Night Nurse" -- he's known as The Cool Ruler. Listen to this and you'll know why.
5-6) Black Uhuru "Red" or "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner". Great reggae from the early 80s.
I left Bob Marley off the list on purpose. You really can't go wrong with any of his Island releases.
my personal favorites are "follow my mind" from jimmy cliff and "marcus garvey" from burning spear.
