For My Daughter
When I die choose a star
and name it after me
that you may know
I have not abandoned
or forgotten you.
You were such a star to me,
following you through birth
and childhood, my hand
in your hand.
When I die
choose a star and name it
after me so that I may shine
down on you, until you join
me in darkness and silence
together.

Perhaps an odd choice for a happy birthday wish, but I love the idea of picking a star...don't you?
Happy Birthday, pretty baby girl.

How absolutely wonderful! She is a lovely gal too...Happy birthday honey.
Yes; the stars are our loved ones gone before us, or so I always like to believe whenever I am gazing upon them in the still night.
Just beautiful...
Looks like the apple didn't fall too far from the tree. Here's hoping my girls get to read her thoughts and musings in another few years.
Proud moms unite! She looks like a lovely young woman. Good poem, mom.
happy birthday
Thanks to all my blog buds for the birthday wishes for my daughter!
Christmas time babies are special,no?
Happy B'day to a (cow)chip off the old (well, not so old) block. She'd doing you proud.
Another Happy Birthday for your lovely daughter. And I love the star idea also. I once had a friend who bottled wine under his own private label, called "Shooting Star." When he tragically passed away, I spent a few nights looking for that shooting star so that I would know he was okay. And I saw it! That is peace. :-)
But imagine being called Beetle-Juice :-( (=Betelgeuse)
Have you read the Glass Castle? In the book the father wants to give his daughter a gift but he has no money . He sits beside her and says something like, "Look up at the sky and pick a star, that star is my gift to you.
Reading that poem you sent to your daughter reminded me of that passage.
The book is non-fiction and was one of the best that I have read in a very long time.
Happy birthday to your pretty baby girl.
