Battle of Adobe Walls
Most older Cowtown natives have grown up hearing the names of Cynthia Ann Parker and Quanah Parker, her son by Comanche Chief Peta Nocona. On June 27th, 1874, Quanah and a hunting party composed of warriors from various different Indian nations were poised to teach the "white eyes" a lesson. Alas, the lesson backfired as the long-reaching buffalo guns of the white men made easy pickin's of the Indians.
The Battle of Adobe Walls is excerpted here, as written by Lucia St. Clair Robson in her book,"Ride The Wind", a must-read if you enjoy stories of the People and Texans. (Comanches have always been known as "the People".)
