Mustangs with McQueen Cool

Kman will come running anytime the commercial airs for Ford that promotes the new Mustang with his alltime favorite television hero - Steve McQueen. Both Pattie and Kman have added a new 2005 Mustang to their Christmas list, and thus the market to whom this hip new commercial is targeted is right on the money.

I wonder how many teenagers and twenty-somethings get the McQueen connection? Bullitt is not a well-known movie for this age group, although I imagine the brilliant advertising campaign might just push McQueen into a bigger cult following than he is already to us Old Farts. Earlier boomers had James Dean, and McQueen took his place for us later boomers.

The commercial itself is almost seemless in its delivery and fun to watch, and although I am sure there are those purists who think this is a shameless exploitation of McQueen, I love it as a proper homage to The Man. I bet Steve is getting a big kick out of it!

I had a collection of sixties mustangs when I was going through my mid-life crisis, which is fortunately now long over. I also bought a '97 Mustang Cobra during those dark days, but I sold it a few years later. It was a fantastic ultra fast rocket, but it just didn't have the right look. These 2005 Mustangs are really on target though, and the price is right, so I may have to visit my Ford dealer sometime soon.
