News You Won't See On CNN
I love Molly Ivins. She is not one of those Texas women that sit on a fence, nosiree. Molly can piss off a white Republican man faster than a Texas twister can pop up at Mayfest on the Trinity. Her brand of politics is spicy and downhome, as is her humor. I think she might do great at stand-up comedy, too.
Take a look to my sidebar - I have added some political links. While I seldom vote a straight ticket, ( I have done so once in my voting past) I guess it is fair to say that I fall closer to the left than the right when I stoop to politics. I have tried being a Republican, but two major reasons that prevent it include my meager pocketbook, and the biggest roadblock: I am just too damn liberal. Never did learn to walk two steps behind my man, and never could master the "big hair" that is required for proper Republican women. Now before you start gettin' hysterical, I count many Republicans among my friends; they just can't help it if their mama raised them Right. (Okay, bad play on words.) Some of my nicest readers are Republicans. While I might often disagree, I still respect their viewpoints, and enjoy a good old-fashioned speechify with 'em.
This ole world would be a dull place indeed if we were carbon copies of each other. Every ying needs a yang, and every Democrat needs a Republican. Balance of powers stuff, you know.
Truth is, my personal belief is that an honest politician is a rare thing. And if he went into office honest, he seldom leaves that way. In my way humble opinion, the political football game is the bloodiest sport around, whatever your party affiliation.
PS: A recent column by William Bryk can be found here. Interesting read regardless of your choice of Hill Mammals. Some fans of the current administration might pooh pooh it, but it has some very valid, sobering points.

I never really gave it much thought, but you got a point about the big hair.

I once thought Molly Ivins was an honest liberal too. But I've come to the conclusion that she is just another Democrat party-line hack writer. I had noticed inconsistencies for several years but my disenchantment took final form when she defended the actions of Speaker Jim Wright. One of the crookedest and most embarrassing politicians ever to come out of Texas and serve in the Congress. Molly's rationale was "Sure he's a crook, but he's our crook". That shattered her credibility for me. I haven't read her column for a long time. But I would bet you can't find but two or three columns, out of the thousands she has written, criticizing the Democrat Party, no matter what they do.
Oh, and in the interest of full disclosure, I am a White(or near white......high pink?)Republican.

Well, at least you sound reasonable. I did like the line about "stooping to politics". Extremely accurate!
