On Wednesday night, went to see Something's Gotta Give with Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton. THANK YOU HOLLYWOOD for celebrating older women. Bout time. It was a weird moment for me at particular parts of the movie. I felt a strange bond with the other women my age in the theater. It was like it was our own little secret of understanding - of getting it. We were laughing and crying with Diane, not at her or the script. Afterwards, walking out to the car, I noticed lots of hand holding and sideways glances of the older couples. I don't think the movie would really appeal to anyone under the age of 40. My teenaged stepson went with us, and he thought it was "okay" but I am sure he will never give it a second thought. Mostly he thought the butt scenes with Jack were the funniest. The dancing Harry. As it should be, I suppose. Maybe it will implant a tiny seed in his young male brain to appreciate the woman in his life when he is 50+.
My favorite part? After a passionate evening of lovemaking with Harry, Erica falls back breathless and exclaims with a most believable surprise on her face, "I like sex!" A new revelation of herself, an awakening of her supressed feminine mystique that Diane Keaton expresses superbly. The wisdom in the words of "Know thyself".
