These old time rodeo stars were a handsome bunch. The post card lists their names: Leonard Stroud, Chester Byers, Tommie Kirnan, Hugh Strickland, Johnie Judd, Yakima Canutt ( misspelled on the card, and as I mentioned in an earlier post, led me to believe his name was Yakamicanutt), and Bryan Roach. Notice the wonderfully stitched boot tops, all the better to see with pants legs tucked in! There was a reason for the tucking in - ask any rodeo rider. The card was printed by the Art & National View Company, and also has the name E.G. Willoughby on the back, perhaps the photographer. I am guessing the time frame for this photo was the 1920's. Such spirit and comraderie are seen in their faces!

Trick Riding Saddle
N. Porter Saddlery, circa 1915
R.241.1
This special saddle, with its extended horn, auxiliary straps and crupper handholds, was used extensively by the great trick rider Leonard Stroud. The back of the cantle is stamped: "Porter Trick Saddle / Designed Especially For Leonard Stroud," and his name appears along the edge of the stirrup leathers. The carpeted pad beneath the saddle also carries Stroud's initials.
