Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System

Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System

This is a wonderful site for looking up ancestors that fought in the Civil War. Geneology is a hobby of mine - Still Shaking the Family Tree and Dodging all the Nuts!

After adding your ancestor name, you will pull up a screen with possible choices - may be more than one John Smith, Confederate, you know. Then, you can click to see commanding officers and possible battle sites your great great grandfather might have fought.

If I can help you get started looking for your own nuts, drop me a line. I have just been fascinated by all the information I have gathered. Know that you can get well-intentioned, but incorrect or misguided info off of the web sometimes. This site is legit, though.

I found pictures of a great grandfather and his father, my great great grandfather through internet searching. This particular ancestor was never discussed by my grandmother, as he gave up his parental rights when she was very young and disappeared. A few years ago after I found them, I printed some out for her. She was 88 at the time ( now 91) and got very teary eyed and finally we had a long talk about Mr. Routh, her father. Now, grandmother is in a resthome with Alzheimer's and I am so glad that I brought the pictures to her. Never forget your older loved ones, they are a trove of information and will love telling you all their stories. These stories, even if a little embellished, are so much a part of a good family history.

Good hunting!
